Coding and Robotics in the AJHS LMC

Digital literacy has become as important as traditional literacy.  Students in the AJHS Library Media Center have access to several sets of SpherosOllies, and Parrot Mini Drones which can be programmed with their school-issued Chromebooks and personal devices.  Learning to code and program has become as valuable as learning how to read.  Many opportunities await a coder and programmer across the river bridge in Huntsville, the Rocket City!  The LMC recently added several app enabled programmable drones to its collection for students to program.  There are now Parrot Jumping Sumos, Parrot Military Mini Drones, and Parrot Cargo Mini Drones.

We recently received a grant from Senator Clayton Scofield (District 9) and the Marshall County Legislative Office to support the instruction of digital literacy skills.  We were able to purchase numerous Sphero Minis for students to learn to code and program to complete autonomous tasks.  Thank you, Senator Scofield!

We also recently received a grant from the ShareSpace Foundation and Buzz Aldrin Family Foundation during the 2018/2019 school year which awarded us a 25'x25' Giant Mars Map complete with a Buzz Aldrin curriculum kit, textbooks, and robot kit.  During the 2019/2020 school year we received an additional grant which awarded us a 15'x15' Giant Moon Map, textbooks, curriculum kit, and lunar model. Thank you, ShareSpace and the Buzz Aldrin Family Foundation, for this awesome opportunity for students to program drones on the surface of Mars and the Moon!
