Library Media Center
The AJHS Library Media Center is a hub of concurrent activies involving whole classes, small groups, and individuals. Students use the Destiny Discover Chrome extension on their school-issued Chromebooks to search for books in our print collection, check out ebooks from our digital collection, and listen to audiobooks.
We recently genrefied our fiction section, and now students can browse for fiction books by genre: Science Fiction, Realistic Fiction, Fantasy Fiction, Action & Adventure, Mystery & Suspense, Historical Fiction, Horror & Supernatural, Romance & Relationships, and Sports Fiction. When logged in to Destiny Discover through the Chrome Extension on their school-issued Chromebooks, students can rate and review the books they've read. Our goal is to grow each reader from middle grade fiction to tween, teen, and young adult literature.
In addition to our fiction section, the LMC has a large biography section and a nonfiction section. We have a popular graphic novels collection and a collection of yearbooks dating back to the 1960s! We are proud of our local history collection of titles about the Arab, Marshall County, and Alabama regions. We have a fun Spanish language (ELL) fiction collection with great titles for our junior high Spanish language speakers and their families.
Library Media Specialist and Assistant are available each class period to assist faculty and students, check out books, and reshelve materials. In addition to scheduling the LMC for classroom, small group, and individual student use, a conference room adjacent to the LMC can be scheduled for activities that take place before, during, and after school. The presentation area of the LMC includes a large flat-panel TV to which Chromebooks and personal devices can be connected, complete with surround sound and home theater system. Educational groups, athletic teams, and civic organizations are welcome! We've added new, comfortable seating to our reading areas and continue to improve and update as funds become available.
